Patients with a strong anti-tumor T cell response, indicated by increased T cell densities, generally have better prognoses and respond more effectively to treatments. While traditional single-color immunohistochemistry can stratify patients based on CD3 and CD8 T cell infiltrate, it overlooks important suppressive mechanisms in the tumor microenvironment. We have developed a technique to study multiple parameters simultaneously in humans and mice. This approach shows that the interactions among various immune populations are more effective prognostic indicators than CD8 T cell density alone. Additionally, integrating this tool with clinical trials, as outlined in the appendices, could enhance our understanding of treatment mechanisms and aid in developing predictive biomarkers for more targeted therapies. 000007867 542__ $$fIn copyright - single owner 000007867 650__ $$aImmune System$$020666 000007867 650__ $$aMelanoma$$021989 000007867 650__ $$aCell Count$$016277 000007867 650__ $$aBiomarkers$$028395 000007867 650__ $$aCD8-Positive T-Lymphocytes$$030782 000007867 650__ $$aPrognosis$$024646 000007867 650__ $$aImmunohistochemistry$$020708 000007867 650__ $$aTumor Microenvironment$$039473 000007867 650__ $$aMice$$036842 000007867 650__ $$aNeoplastic Processes$$022774 000007867 650__ $$aNeoplasms$$022758 000007867 650__ $$aImmunity$$020668 000007867 650__ $$aHumans 000007867 691__ $$aSchool of Medicine$$041369 000007867 7001_ $$aFeng, Zipei$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000007867 7201_ $$aFox, Bernard$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354$$7Personal$$eAdvisor 000007867 8564_ $$92feb4a41-3f96-4710-98ca-ac1b681e3868$$s6086212$$uhttps://digitalcollections.ohsu.edu/record/7867/files/feng.zipei.2016.pdf 000007867 905__ $$a/rest/prod/ff/36/55/99/ff3655991 000007867 909CO $$ooai:digitalcollections.ohsu.edu:7867$$pstudent-work 000007867 980__ $$aTheses and Dissertations
