Shortly after completing her education, Toedtemeier joined the staff at the Russell Street Dental Clinic as a dental hygienist. The clinic serves low income, unhoused, disabled, and HIV+/AIDS communities. The clinic is one of the few places in Oregon that provided dental care for HIV+ patients in the 1980s and 1990s when the stigma surrounding HIV and AIDS was at its height. In this interview, Toedtemeier discusses her personal reflections on the work that the clinic and partnering programs have accomplished over the years, the unique patient-provider relationships that she has experienced, and the importance of teaching empathy and compassion in dental care. She also discusses her exposure to awareness issues in regards to HIV+ stigmas, especially within the healthcare community, and her efforts and thoughts on creating positive change. 000007908 540__ $$fCC BY-NC 000007908 542__ $$fIn Copyright - Educational Use Permitted 000007908 650__ $$aAcquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome$$014162 000007908 650__ $$aHiv$$020258 000007908 650__ $$aPublic Health$$024885 000007908 650__ $$aDentistry$$017565 000007908 650__ $$aDental Hygienists$$017509 000007908 650__ $$aOral Hygiene$$023252 000007908 650__ $$aEducation$$018215 000007908 7102_ $$aOregon Health & Science University$$010958 000007908 720__ $$aToedtemeier, Rosemary$$041832$$eInterviewee$$7Personal 000007908 720__ $$aEigner-Barry, Toni$$041763$$eInterviewer$$7Personal 000007908 8564_ $$92cc6b01f-32a1-4495-a70c-b9713a9e0c35$$s203817$$uhttps://digitalcollections.ohsu.edu/record/7908/files/Transcript_Toedtemeier_Rosemary.pdf$$ytranscript 000007908 8564_ $$yvideo$$9bbd08d7e-0076-44e7-a9a0-a09391469b05$$s162081833$$uhttps://digitalcollections.ohsu.edu/record/7908/files/Toedtemeier-Rosemary_interview_2019.11.19.mp4 000007908 901__ $$aOral histories are considered historical materials.
