TY - THES AB - Hearing loss and tinnitus are prevalent conditions with limited data among American Indian and Alaska Native populations. We conducted a cross-sectional study of 217 adult members of a Pacific Northwest tribe to assess self-reported, provider-diagnosed hearing loss and tinnitus and associated risk factors. Hearing loss was reported by 18% of participants and increased with age; significant noise exposure was a strong risk factor. Tinnitus prevalence was 33% and was associated with both significant noise exposure and history of otitis media. Few participants reported hearing aid use. Findings support prevention efforts focused on noise reduction, hearing protection, and otitis media prevention.
