000000802 520__ $$aThis study compared knowledge, safety, and health screening behaviors among women obtaining hormonal contraceptives (HC) online without a clinical examination versus those obtaining HC in clinic settings. Women from both groups completed surveys assessing knowledge of HC contraindications and potential complications. Knowledge scores were compared using tests of equivalence. Online users differed demographically, being older, more educated, and more likely insured. Despite these differences, online users demonstrated equivalent or higher knowledge of HC risks compared with clinic users. Age-restricted analyses showed no disadvantage for the online group. These findings suggest that obtaining HC online is a safe alternative to clinic-based care and challenge the necessity of routine face-to-face visits for HC prescribing.
