TY - GEN AB - Contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) has found widespread use as a diagnostic imaging tool, with contrast used in approximately 60% of all CT scans. Dual-Energy CT (DECT) offers improvements to standard CT contrast imaging, particularly through material differentiation which improves diagnostic criteria and makes virtual non-contrast imaging possible. Photon-Counting CT (PCCT) improves upon DECT with the use of multiple adjustable energy-thresholds. This technology promises better material differentiation, multi-contrast imaging, increased CNR, reduced dose for maintained image quality, and material-specific K-edge imaging, but optimization of PCCT protocols is needed in order to maximize these benefits.
