000000815 520__ $$aThis study examined the effects of repeated ethanol intoxication and withdrawal on withdrawal severity and voluntary alcohol consumption in Withdrawal Seizure‑Prone (WSP) and Withdrawal Seizure‑Resistant (WSR) mice. Using vapor inhalation to produce single or multiple withdrawal histories, repeated ethanol withdrawals produced a kindling‑like increase in handling‑induced convulsions in both lines. Withdrawal history also influenced drinking behavior, as WSR mice consumed more ethanol overall, but multiple withdrawals reduced voluntary intake in this line. These findings suggest shared genetic influences on withdrawal severity and alcohol drinking behavior.
