In up to 50% of cases, children with ADHD have additional symptoms of emotional dysregulation including anger, irritability, or aggression. Aggression confers considerable additional risk for adverse health outcomes like illicit drug use and suicide. Aggression is associated with changes in cortisol, a steroid hormone involved in the stress response. The literature on the direction of the association is inconsistent and must be better characterized. Dysregulated cortisol may represent a treatment target in children with ADHD and symptoms of aggression. We will assess the association between urinary cortisol and the severity of aggression in children who have ADHD plus symptoms of emotional dysregulation. 000008232 540__ $$fCC BY 000008232 542__ $$fIn copyright - joint owners 000008232 650__ $$aConduct Disorder$$032019 000008232 650__ $$aAggression$$014357 000008232 650__ $$aIrritable Mood$$021043 000008232 650__ $$aAttention Deficit Disorder with Hyperactivity$$015204 000008232 650__ $$aAttention Deficit and Disruptive Behavior Disorders$$032022 000008232 650__ $$aIntegrative Medicine$$038142 000008232 650__ $$aNeurodevelopmental Disorders$$040742 000008232 650__ $$aAnger$$014742 000008232 650__ $$aEmotional Regulation$$013074 000008232 650__ $$aSelf-Control$$011248 000008232 6531_ $$acortisol 000008232 6531_ $$aemotional dysregulation 000008232 7001_ $$aBruton, Alisha$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000008232 7001_ $$aSenders, Angela$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000008232 7001_ $$aJohnstone, Jeni$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000008232 7001_ $$aPlaczek, Kate$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000008232 7001_ $$aZava, David$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000008232 7001_ $$aArnold, Eugene$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000008232 7001_ $$aPerez, Leanna$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000008232 7001_ $$aStern, Madeline$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000008232 711__ $$aResearch Week$$uOregon Health and Science University$$d2020 000008232 8564_ $$99c246341-878c-41bd-8057-476146c145be$$s50426$$uhttps://digitalcollections.ohsu.edu/record/8232/files/Alisha-Bruton.pdf 000008232 8564_ $$99b38e683-30d9-4e4e-b477-d737e566cee5$$s359507$$uhttps://digitalcollections.ohsu.edu/record/8232/files/Bruton_Presentation.pdf 000008232 905__ $$a/rest/prod/1n/79/h4/96/1n79h496j 000008232 980__ $$aResearch Week
