This is a public health crisis and the American health professional workforce is unprepared to care for patients with SUDs. This problem is due, in part, to the lack of addiction medicine education that healthcare providers receive in school. On average, medical schools offer 12 hours of exposure to this material over four years. We intend to describe best practices for the development and implementation of student-initiated course material in both elective and required curricula. Previous studies have shown that brief educational interventions that teach students crucial addiction medicine concepts can have a lasting impact on the addiction practice of future physicians. To address the lack of addiction medicine education in medical school, students at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), University of California - San Francisco (UCSF), and University of Washington (UW) created and implemented addiction medicine curricula. We hypothesize that the implementation of student-led addiction content for undergraduate medical learners will be both feasible and acceptable. This will be done through enrollment and attendance and assessing changes in student self-assessment of SUD knowledge and attitudes. This will hopefully elucidate the role of student-led curricular development in addressing public health crisis. 000008243 540__ $$fCC BY 000008243 542__ $$fIn copyright - joint owners 000008243 650__ $$aEducation, Medical$$018223 000008243 650__ $$aSubstance-Related Disorders$$032029 000008243 650__ $$aAddiction Medicine$$012139 000008243 650__ $$aAlcoholism$$014412 000008243 650__ $$aStudents, Medical$$026492 000008243 650__ $$aEducation, Medical$$018223 000008243 7001_ $$aLockard, Rachel$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000008243 7001_ $$aMykrantz Brown, Patrick$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000008243 7001_ $$aFunari, Trevor$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000008243 7001_ $$aButton, Dana$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000008243 711__ $$aResearch Week$$uOregon Health and Science University$$d2020 000008243 8564_ $$936bfc950-15f7-4466-9e0c-b123875739a7$$s981145$$uhttps://digitalcollections.ohsu.edu/record/8243/files/Lockard_Presentation.pdf 000008243 8564_ $$99ac923e3-f036-4e0c-8017-76dfd506f120$$s45701$$uhttps://digitalcollections.ohsu.edu/record/8243/files/Rachel-Lockard.pdf 000008243 905__ $$a/rest/prod/pc/28/9j/75/pc289j75p 000008243 980__ $$aResearch Week
