It is characterized by memory loss, challenges with executive function, and difficulties learning and storing new information, among many other symptoms. Age is the most significant risk factor for AD, interacting with several genetic and environmental risk factors to contribute to disease manifestation. In addition to AD, age-related cognitive decline (ACD) and mild cognitive impairments (MCI) are of increasing concern with the increased longevity. There might be protective factors that can help mitigate the development of ACD, MCI, and AD. In this pilot study, we started to explore the effects of exercise as possible protective factor in human apoE mice. Voluntary wheel running, even in mild bouts, can improve cognition, memory, and executive function. 000008305 536__ $$oNational Institute of Health$$cRF1 AG059088 000008305 540__ $$fCC BY 000008305 542__ $$fIn copyright - joint owners 000008305 650__ $$aExercise$$028419 000008305 650__ $$aCognitive Dysfunction$$039814 000008305 650__ $$aAging$$014358 000008305 650__ $$aExecutive Function$$038584 000008305 650__ $$aNeurocognitive Disorders$$032028 000008305 650__ $$aDementia$$017461 000008305 650__ $$aAlzheimer Disease$$014513 000008305 650__ $$aRodentia$$025590 000008305 650__ $$aMice$$036842 000008305 650__ $$aMemory$$022012 000008305 650__ $$aLearning$$021358 000008305 650__ $$aCognition$$016868 000008305 650__ $$aProtective Factors$$040725 000008305 6531_ $$arunning wheel 000008305 6531_ $$aneurological disorders 000008305 6531_ $$aage related cognitive decline 000008305 6531_ $$amild cognitive impairments 000008305 6531_ $$aphysical activity 000008305 691__ $$aSchool of Medicine$$041369 000008305 692__ $$aDepartment of Behavioral Neuroscience$$041394 000008305 7001_ $$aPerez, Ruby$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000008305 7001_ $$aRaber, Jacob$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000008305 711__ $$aResearch Week$$uOregon Health and Science University$$d2020 000008305 8564_ $$9c33c9a56-1d8b-4b8d-a91d-03c18d4b24a2$$s47599$$uhttps://digitalcollections.ohsu.edu/record/8305/files/Ruby-Perez.pdf 000008305 905__ $$a/rest/prod/ht/24/wk/04/ht24wk041 000008305 980__ $$aResearch Week
