This discovery of the bladder microbiota naturally leads to the question of its influence on the health of the host. Recent results have shown that changes in the composition of the bladder microbiota are associated with bladder disorders. For example, studies have identified characteristics in the urinary microbiota that are associated with symptom severity of urgency urinary incontinence (UUI) and response to the common UUI drug treatment solifenacin. These studies collectively provide evidence that the bladder microbiota is clinically relevant and warrants further investigation. 000008315 540__ $$fCC BY 000008315 542__ $$fIn copyright - joint owners 000008315 650__ $$aUrinary Bladder$$015618 000008315 650__ $$aClassification$$016768 000008315 650__ $$aBacteria$$015323 000008315 650__ $$aMicrobiota$$040384 000008315 650__ $$aUrinary Tract$$027637 000008315 650__ $$aUrinary Incontinence, Urge$$037303 000008315 691__ $$aSchool of Medicine$$041369 000008315 692__ $$aDepartment of Medical Informatics and Clinical Epidemiology$$041422 000008315 7001_ $$aHoffman, Carter$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000008315 7001_ $$aMooney, Michael$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000008315 7001_ $$aSimon, Holly$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000008315 7001_ $$aKarstens, Lisa$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000008315 711__ $$aResearch Week$$uOregon Health and Science University$$d2020 000008315 8564_ $$91114e5c0-1aa7-433a-9def-d3e4d33511a6$$s43293$$uhttps://digitalcollections.ohsu.edu/record/8315/files/ResearchWeek.2020.Hoffman.Carter.pdf 000008315 905__ $$a/rest/prod/3r/07/4v/54/3r074v54r 000008315 980__ $$aResearch Week
