Research has shown that PD may also impact how patients perceive themselves as communicators with specific negative impact on their sense of control, confidence, getting their message across, sense of adequacy, and independence. These changes in communication can lead to withdrawal and social isolation. Voice and speech deficits are frequently treated with Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT), an intensive 4-week program of voice therapy, which is regarded as the most well-researched, efficacious treatment for these symptoms. Although numerous studies have been published reporting acoustic and perceptual findings, none have assessed the impact of treatment on how patients perceive themselves. This is the first study to address changes in self-perception after LSVT in patients with PD. 000008316 540__ $$fCC BY 000008316 542__ $$fIn copyright - joint owners 000008316 650__ $$aSelf Concept 000008316 650__ $$aCommunication$$016935 000008316 650__ $$aDysarthria$$018128 000008316 650__ $$aParkinson Disease$$023617 000008316 650__ $$aSelf Concept$$025841 000008316 650__ $$aParkinsonian Disorders$$032648 000008316 650__ $$aSynucleinopathies$$013171 000008316 650__ $$aMovement Disorders$$022476 000008316 650__ $$aNeurodegenerative Diseases$$031750 000008316 650__ $$aSpeech Therapy$$026236 000008316 6531_ $$avoice therapy 000008316 6531_ $$alee silverman voice treatment 000008316 691__ $$aSchool of Medicine$$041369 000008316 692__ $$aDepartment of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery$$041437 000008316 7001_ $$aBryans, Linda$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000008316 7001_ $$aPalmer, Andrew$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000008316 711__ $$aResearch Week$$uOregon Health and Science University$$d2020 000008316 8564_ $$926e75231-920e-4463-aeba-416dbfa8d541$$s43890$$uhttps://digitalcollections.ohsu.edu/record/8316/files/ResearchWeek.2020.Bryans.Linda.pdf 000008316 905__ $$a/rest/prod/p5/54/7s/13/p5547s134 000008316 980__ $$aResearch Week
