The etiology of UUI is complex, but evidence suggests that shifts in the normal urinary microbiome may play a role in UUI. We aim to understand whether women with UUI have different urinary bacterial loads compared to women without UUI and whether this is correlated with severity of UUI symptoms. Our prospective cohort study compares urinary microbiome in women with and without UUI. This study provides evidence that women with UUI have significantly higher urinary bacterial load, but the higher bacterial load was associated with less severe symptoms. Larger bacterial load in women with UUI symptoms may represent a mix of both pathogenic and commensal bacteria and that symptom severity is dependent on proportion between these two types of bacteria rather than the overall abundance. 000008321 540__ $$fCC BY 000008321 542__ $$fIn copyright - joint owners 000008321 650__ $$aBacterial Load$$039214 000008321 650__ $$aUrinary Incontinence, Urge$$037303 000008321 650__ $$aUrinary Incontinence$$027635 000008321 6531_ $$aurinary microbiome 000008321 6531_ $$aquantitative microbiome profiling 000008321 691__ $$aSchool of Medicine$$041369 000008321 692__ $$aDepartment of Medical Informatics and Clinical Epidemiology$$041422 000008321 7001_ $$aLeung, Eric$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000008321 7001_ $$aJallow, Fatoumata$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000008321 7001_ $$aSchleisman, Matthew$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000008321 7001_ $$aRodriguez, Manny$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000008321 7001_ $$aGregory, Tom$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000008321 7001_ $$aNardos, Rahel$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000008321 711__ $$aResearch Week$$uOregon Health and Science University$$d2020 000008321 8564_ $$98d1e616c-ae61-49b3-afb5-f6bcbe4315d6$$s46051$$uhttps://digitalcollections.ohsu.edu/record/8321/files/ResearchWeek.2020.Leung.Eric.pdf 000008321 905__ $$a/rest/prod/nz/80/60/29/nz806029d 000008321 980__ $$aResearch Week
