The disease is defined by the accumulation of the protein alpha-synuclein into aggregates known as Lewy inclusions, but how these aggregates initiate and propagate to various locations throughout the brain is unknown. To develop targeted disease modifying therapies, it is important to understand how aggregated forms of alpha-synuclein are transported throughout the nervous system and to determine the effect aggregation of alpha-synuclein has on specific cell types and specific behaviors. The hypotheses of this research are that alpha-synuclein aggregates propagate through neuroanatomically connected pathways and that induction of Lewy pathology results in behavioral deficits. 000008350 540__ $$fCC BY 000008350 542__ $$fIn copyright - joint owners 000008350 650__ $$aParkinson Disease$$023617 000008350 650__ $$aNeurodegenerative Diseases$$031750 000008350 650__ $$aalpha-Synuclein$$037032 000008350 650__ $$aCentral Nervous System Diseases$$016315 000008350 650__ $$aParkinsonian Disorders$$032648 000008350 650__ $$aSynucleinopathies$$013171 000008350 6531_ $$aneurodegeneration 000008350 691__ $$aSchool of Medicine$$041369 000008350 692__ $$aDepartment of Neurology$$041431 000008350 692__ $$aJungers Center for Neurosciences Research$$041475 000008350 7001_ $$aSchaser, Allison$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000008350 7001_ $$aStackhouse, Teresa$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000008350 7001_ $$aMeshul, Charlie$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000008350 7001_ $$aLopez, Claudia S.$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000008350 7001_ $$aUnni, Vivek$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000008350 711__ $$aResearch Week$$uOregon Health and Science University$$d2020 000008350 8564_ $$997a99363-628a-42a9-ae3d-c9f3f02a0972$$s44429$$uhttps://digitalcollections.ohsu.edu/record/8350/files/ResearchWeek.2020.Schaser.Allison.pdf 000008350 905__ $$a/rest/prod/4f/16/c3/63/4f16c363r 000008350 980__ $$aResearch Week
