Current vaccines provide only short-term immunity, highlighting the need for improved strategies. Using simian varicella virus (SVV) infection in rhesus macaques as a model, we investigated cellular immunity in viral resolution. Our findings reveal critical roles for CD4 and CD8 T cells, including cytotoxic and cytokine functions, and implicate plasmacytoid dendritic cells in early responses. Immune depletion confirmed cellular immunity as essential for SVV control. These results advance understanding of adaptive immunity and inform vaccine development. 000000877 540__ $$fCC BY 000000877 542__ $$fIn copyright - single owner 000000877 650__ $$aMacaca mulatta$$021724 000000877 650__ $$aImmune System Phenomena$$038405 000000877 650__ $$aT-Lymphocytes$$026731 000000877 650__ $$aVaricellovirus$$030539 000000877 650__ $$aVaccine Development$$013568 000000877 650__ $$aImmunity, Cellular$$020670 000000877 650__ $$aHerpesvirus 3, Human$$027725 000000877 650__ $$aVaricella Zoster Virus Infection$$012181 000000877 650__ $$aCD8-Positive T-Lymphocytes$$030782 000000877 6531_ $$arhesus monkey 000000877 6531_ $$asimian viruses 000000877 691__ $$aSchool of Medicine$$041369 000000877 692__ $$aDepartment of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology$$041429 000000877 7001_ $$aHaberthur, Kristen$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000000877 7201_ $$aMessaoudi, Ilhem$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354$$7Personal$$eMentor 000000877 8564_ $$931e43fbb-4bd5-4a17-bc17-13a6f3b4b796$$s15754331$$uhttps://digitalcollections.ohsu.edu/record/877/files/880_etd.pdf$$ePublic$$2f1009a79b97b77925a5ce5fa47c4ec9b$$31 000000877 905__ $$a/rest/prod/pc/28/9j/08/pc289j08t 000000877 909CO $$ooai:digitalcollections.ohsu.edu:877$$pstudent-work 000000877 980__ $$aTheses and Dissertations
