Fluorescence-based sensors track oil plumes, but interpretation and specificity remain limited. This study examined fluorescence properties of water-accommodated fractions (WAFs) from multiple crude oils and their photodegradation. Key excitation/emission ranges (240–270 nm, 305–360 nm) were consistent, with persistent peaks after solar exposure. GC×GC-TOFMS confirmed PAH composition. Results support refining fluorometer calibration to target these signatures, improving real-time monitoring of dispersed toxic oil components during marine spills. 000000921 540__ $$fCC BY 000000921 542__ $$fIn copyright - single owner 000000921 650__ $$aPhotochemistry$$024077 000000921 650__ $$aPetroleum$$023888 000000921 650__ $$aPetroleum Pollution$$039569 000000921 650__ $$aIn Situ Hybridization$$029943 000000921 650__ $$aPhotolysis$$024082 000000921 650__ $$aFluorescence$$019121 000000921 650__ $$aSpectrometry, Fluorescence$$026216 000000921 6531_ $$afluorescence in situ hybridization 000000921 6531_ $$agcxgc-tofms (two-dimensional gas chromatography with time-of-flight mass spectrometer) 000000921 6531_ $$aoil spills 000000921 6531_ $$aspectrometry 000000921 691__ $$aSchool of Medicine$$041369 000000921 692__ $$aInstitute of Environmental Health$$041473 000000921 692__ $$aDepartment of Environmental and Biomolecular Systems$$041414 000000921 7001_ $$aSlasor, Leslie$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000000921 7201_ $$aNeedoba, Joseph$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354$$7Personal$$eAdvisor 000000921 8564_ $$91bb64bdc-b545-48cc-8499-3969fbe42a84$$s4641915$$uhttps://digitalcollections.ohsu.edu/record/921/files/924_etd.pdf$$ePublic$$2c8443182733dc2423aa22677e72adf43$$31 000000921 905__ $$a/rest/prod/rj/43/04/59/rj4304596 000000921 909CO $$ooai:digitalcollections.ohsu.edu:921$$pstudent-work 000000921 956__ $$aGet Accessible Copy$$uhttps://ohsu.libwizard.com/f/requestaccessibledocument 000000921 980__ $$aTheses and Dissertations
