Gender-based assumptions, such as the perception of women as less agentic (associated with stereotypically masculine qualities such as independence and ambition) and more communal (associated with stereotypically feminine qualities such as gentleness and dependence), are a possible explanation for these gender-based discrepancies. Case scheduling within academic anesthesia departments consists of assigning attending anesthesiologists (attendings) to supervise up to four Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) or up to two resident physicians (residents). By supervising CRNAs, the attending has the potential to oversee more cases and may have a greater opportunity to earn American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) units and Relative Value Units (RVUs). We hypothesized that female anesthesia attendings are assigned at increased frequency to residents and produce less ASA units and less RVUs, compared to male colleagues. 000009265 540__ $$fCC BY 000009265 542__ $$fIn copyright - joint owners 000009265 650__ $$aGender Equity$$013435 000009265 650__ $$aSex Factors$$025927 000009265 650__ $$aSexism$$040242 000009265 650__ $$aSocioeconomic Factors$$026134 000009265 650__ $$aDiversity, Equity, Inclusion$$013904 000009265 650__ $$aAnesthesiologists$$011905 000009265 6531_ $$agender wage gap 000009265 691__ $$aSchool of Medicine$$041369 000009265 692__ $$aDepartment of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine$$041393 000009265 7001_ $$aZuo, Leila$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000009265 7001_ $$aStuart, Ariana$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000009265 7001_ $$aMuenchrath, Mark$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000009265 7001_ $$aTogioka, Brandon$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000009265 711__ $$aResearch Week$$uOregon Health and Science University$$d2021 000009265 8564_ $$9777e0e34-5540-4cb1-8e81-be21a91cef22$$s297310$$uhttps://digitalcollections.ohsu.edu/record/9265/files/Zuo-Leila-OHSU-ResearchWeek-2021.pdf 000009265 905__ $$a/rest/prod/jd/47/2x/15/jd472x159 000009265 980__ $$aResearch Week
