Rates of adolescent suicide are increasing nationally, and suicidal ideation, suicide attempts, and completed suicides are rising above the national average in Oregon. Novel ideas for addressing the issue of suicide are needed. Targeting youth with educational suicide prevention campaigns is one strategy that can have short and long-term effects on reducing the suicide rate. A multi-faceted approach addressing access to mental health services, peer-support, anti-bullying, and risk management including firearm safety, is needed to truly address the growing problem of adolescent suicide and protect our nation?s youth. Utilizing a one-time educational talk for high-school adolescents can normalize discussing mental health and foster open discussions with adolescents. Curriculum defining at risk youth, the warning signs of suicide, and positive outlets for support like peer groups and trusted adults can help address this growing national crisis. 000009271 540__ $$fCC BY 000009271 542__ $$fIn copyright - single owner 000009271 650__ $$aSuicide$$026555 000009271 650__ $$aBullying$$039183 000009271 650__ $$aSuicidal Ideation$$039477 000009271 650__ $$aMental Health$$022046 000009271 6531_ $$aprevention and control 000009271 6531_ $$aadolescents 000009271 691__ $$aSchool of Medicine$$041369 000009271 692__ $$aDivision of Physician Assistant Education$$041465 000009271 7001_ $$aUlleseit, Timothy$$uOregon Health and Science University$$10000-0003-3614-7728$$041354 000009271 789__ $$whttps://doi.org/10.6083/2r36tz26s$$2URL 000009271 8564_ $$93ef304c4-cebb-4ef4-b8d7-be44456490e5$$s147161$$uhttps://digitalcollections.ohsu.edu/record/9271/files/Ulleseit.Timothy.2021.capstone.pdf 000009271 905__ $$a/rest/prod/rb/68/xc/47/rb68xc470 000009271 909CO $$ooai:digitalcollections.ohsu.edu:9271$$pstudent-work 000009271 980__ $$aPhysician Assistant Program collection
