Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) has shown anti-obesity and anticancer effects in animal studies and increased lean body mass in humans. This randomized clinical trial examined the impact of CLA supplementation (placebo, 3.2 g/day, 6.4 g/day) over 12 weeks in 48 healthy obese adults on oxidative stress and inflammation markers. Outcomes included DNA damage, expression of oxidative stress response genes (Nrf2, SOD1), and serum CRP and IL-6 levels. Higher CLA doses were significantly associated with increased CRP (p = 0.007) and IL-6 (p = 0.02). These findings suggest CLA may elevate inflammatory markers, warranting further research into its role in obesity and disease risk. 000000933 540__ $$fCC BY 000000933 542__ $$fIn copyright - single owner 000000933 650__ $$aOxidative Stress$$030758 000000933 650__ $$aGene Expression$$028717 000000933 650__ $$aInflammation$$020800 000000933 650__ $$aObesity$$023118 000000933 650__ $$aLinoleic Acid$$031877 000000933 650__ $$aAdult$$014319 000000933 650__ $$aDisease Susceptibility$$017935 000000933 650__ $$aChronic Disease$$016715 000000933 650__ $$aLinoleic Acids, Conjugated$$035444 000000933 691__ $$aSchool of Medicine$$041369 000000933 692__ $$aDepartment of Public Health and Preventive Medicine$$041444 000000933 7001_ $$aPhillips, Austin$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000000933 7201_ $$aThuillier, Philippe$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354$$7Personal$$eMentor 000000933 8564_ $$95e5729f6-a995-4601-ae00-2e4d776b8125$$s1572558$$uhttps://digitalcollections.ohsu.edu/record/933/files/936_etd.pdf$$ePublic$$2e233db2aee7fc3a03ba714523c7a11f1$$31 000000933 905__ $$a/rest/prod/f4/75/2g/74/f4752g745 000000933 909CO $$ooai:digitalcollections.ohsu.edu:933$$pstudent-work 000000933 956__ $$aGet Accessible Copy$$uhttps://ohsu.libwizard.com/f/requestaccessibledocument 000000933 980__ $$aTheses and Dissertations
