The Milan Criteria—adopted by UNOS—define LT eligibility based on tumor size and number, yielding 5-year survival rates exceeding 70%. However, HCC progression during wait times leads to significant dropout despite low MELD scores. To address this, UNOS implemented MELD exception points for HCC patients in 2002, prioritizing LT based on tumor progression risk. This system aims to balance organ allocation fairness with optimal outcomes. 000000940 540__ $$fCC BY 000000940 542__ $$fIn copyright - single owner 000000940 650__ $$aLiver Cirrhosis$$021584 000000940 650__ $$aHospitals$$020336 000000940 650__ $$aSurvival Analysis$$028823 000000940 650__ $$aLiver Transplantation$$028835 000000940 650__ $$aWaiting Lists$$027918 000000940 650__ $$aCarcinoma$$016112 000000940 650__ $$aTransplantation$$027278 000000940 650__ $$aLiver Cirrhosis$$021584 000000940 650__ $$aNeoplastic Processes$$022774 000000940 650__ $$aSurvival Rate$$028805 000000940 650__ $$aLiver Neoplasms$$021594 000000940 650__ $$aCarcinoma, Hepatocellular$$020130 000000940 650__ $$aSurvival Analysis$$028823 000000940 6531_ $$acancer 000000940 691__ $$aSchool of Medicine$$041369 000000940 692__ $$aDepartment of Public Health and Preventive Medicine$$041444 000000940 7001_ $$aSchlansky, Barry$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000000940 8564_ $$9d6747292-8394-405d-9beb-c7d1705e4a07$$s1238455$$uhttps://digitalcollections.ohsu.edu/record/940/files/943_etd.pdf$$ePublic$$28c58d2691d9256a5eac56c7bf61960c7$$31 000000940 905__ $$a/rest/prod/x9/20/fw/89/x920fw89s 000000940 909CO $$ooai:digitalcollections.ohsu.edu:940$$pstudent-work 000000940 980__ $$aTheses and Dissertations
