The most upregulated candidate, miRNA 451a, inhibited tumor cell proliferation. Gain-of-function experiments confirmed that miRNA 451a regulates calcium-binding protein 39 (CAB39) ribonucleic acid (RNA) and protein levels in CRC. CAB39 is an upstream regulator of the liver kinase B1 (LKB1) and activated protein kinase (AMPK) signaling pathway. Our analysis of The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) data revealed that CAB39 is upregulated at the protein level in a substantial number of CRC patients and correlates with worse overall survival. I hypothesized that CAB39 may have tumor cell intrinsic and extrinsic functions in the CRC tumor microenvironment. 000009447 542__ $$fIn copyright - single owner 000009447 650__ $$aApoptosis$$029778 000009447 650__ $$aCalcium-Binding Proteins$$015979 000009447 650__ $$aMicroRNAs$$034671 000009447 650__ $$aColorectal Neoplasms$$028197 000009447 650__ $$aTumor Microenvironment$$039473 000009447 6531_ $$acellular immunity 000009447 6531_ $$ahuman 000009447 6531_ $$acalcium binding protein 39 000009447 691__ $$aSchool of Medicine$$041369 000009447 692__ $$aDepartment of Cell, Developmental and Cancer Biology$$041399 000009447 7001_ $$aHudson, Clayton W. 000009447 8564_ $$9638078e2-94b4-497d-b878-5ba026e173a6$$s3893876$$uhttps://digitalcollections.ohsu.edu/record/9447/files/Hudson.Clay.2022.pdf 000009447 905__ $$a/rest/prod/66/82/x4/57/6682x457b 000009447 909CO $$ooai:digitalcollections.ohsu.edu:9447$$pstudent-work 000009447 980__ $$aTheses and Dissertations
