Unlike humans, rats and most other animals are reticent to self-administer alcohol at levels resulting in pharmacological effects. These experiments were designed to investigate the ability of a positive reinforcer, sucrose, to transfer positive motivational properties to ethanol through Pavlovian conditioning. The influence of sucrose pairing on ethanol reward was measured using three different paradigms: self-administration, taste conditioning, and place conditioning. 000009478 542__ $$fIn copyright - single owner 000009478 650__ $$aSucrose$$026547 000009478 650__ $$aTaste$$026772 000009478 650__ $$aAnimals$$014770 000009478 650__ $$aHumans$$020376 000009478 650__ $$aEthanol$$014406 000009478 650__ $$aAlcoholism$$014412 000009478 650__ $$aRats$$036844 000009478 691__ $$aSchool of Medicine$$041369 000009478 692__ $$aDepartment of Medical Psychology$$041424 000009478 7001_ $$aHawks, Denise M. 000009478 8564_ $$9fc6be814-9efc-4d34-b1c0-9b9a536e15e8$$s5828561$$uhttps://digitalcollections.ohsu.edu/record/9478/files/Hawks.Denise.1994.pdf 000009478 905__ $$a/rest/prod/hx/11/xg/10/hx11xg10d 000009478 909CO $$ooai:digitalcollections.ohsu.edu:9478$$pstudent-work 000009478 980__ $$aTheses and Dissertations
