High insulin levels, a part of the metabolic dysfunction frequently present in obese individuals, increase the risk of asthma, indicating that increased insulin has a role in the pathophysiology of obesity-related asthma. In this dissertation I investigate the mechanisms underlying obesity-related asthma. The findings in this dissertation add to our understanding of the underlying mechanisms linking insulin with airway nerve changes and excessive bronchoconstriction. These results emphasize the need and suggest targets for novel therapeutics specific to obesity-related asthma for preventing and treating this disease.}, number = {ETD}, doi = {https://doi.org/10.6083/474299826}, recid = {9495}, address = {2022}, }
