The presence of elevated cortisol in a pregnant person's blood can lead to placental transfer of this stress hormone and subsequently downregulate the fetus' own cortisol production through negative feedback mechanisms. Babies with CHD often require very stressful interventions postnatally that necessitate a properly functioning hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis in order to mount a sufficient cortisol mediated stress response. We sought to investigate the relationship between maternal stress during pregnancy and need for neonatal steroids. 000009552 540__ $$fCC BY 000009552 542__ $$fIn copyright - joint owners 000009552 650__ $$aObstetrics$$023126 000009552 650__ $$aCardiology$$016143 000009552 650__ $$aPediatrics$$023687 000009552 650__ $$aHeart Defects, Congenital$$019936 000009552 6531_ $$adevelopmental origins of health and disease 000009552 6531_ $$acongenital heart disease 000009552 6531_ $$apediatric cardiology 000009552 6531_ $$asteroid treatment 000009552 691__ $$aSchool of Medicine$$041369 000009552 692__ $$aDepartment of Obstetrics and Gynecology$$041432 000009552 7001_ $$aKatlaps, Isabel$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000009552 7001_ $$aRonai, C.$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000009552 7001_ $$aKim, A.$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000009552 7001_ $$aGutshall, K.$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000009552 7001_ $$aValent, A.$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000009552 7001_ $$aThornburg, K.$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000009552 7001_ $$aMadriago, E.$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000009552 711__ $$aResearch Week$$uOregon Health and Science University$$d2022 000009552 8564_ $$9656d8b25-83a7-4c27-ab77-20ce189e6c65$$s49986$$uhttps://digitalcollections.ohsu.edu/record/9552/files/Katlaps-Isabel-OHSU-ResearchWeek-2022_1_.pdf 000009552 905__ $$a/rest/prod/f4/75/2h/48/f4752h48r 000009552 980__ $$aResearch Week
