I also describe a novel method for detecting and monitoring the breathing of an individual lying on the bed using a center of pressure signal derived from the load cell data. Finally, I present results showing the ability of the load cell system to be used in the detection and diagnosis of sleep apnea. The load cell system has potential to replace obtrusive breathing sensors in the sleep lab and to be used as a prescreening tool for patients suspected of having sleep apnea. This technology is currently patent pending. 000000966 540__ $$fCC BY 000000966 542__ $$fIn copyright - single owner 000000966 650__ $$aPolysomnography$$029845 000000966 650__ $$aRespiration$$025348 000000966 650__ $$aSleep Apnea Syndromes$$026067 000000966 691__ $$aSchool of Medicine$$041369 000000966 692__ $$aDepartment of Biomedical Engineering$$041397 000000966 7001_ $$aBeattie, Zachary$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000000966 7201_ $$aHayes, Tamara$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354$$7Personal$$eAdvisor 000000966 7201_ $$aMcCarty, Owen$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354$$7Personal$$eAdvisor 000000966 8564_ $$97f344bcc-4b25-4109-b7ba-a7aaccd0fbb4$$s8053562$$uhttps://digitalcollections.ohsu.edu/record/966/files/969_etd.pdf$$ePublic$$2b045593ea4aa3fb1998719600a89ec16$$31 000000966 905__ $$a/rest/prod/dz/01/0q/06/dz010q06g 000000966 909CO $$ooai:digitalcollections.ohsu.edu:966$$pstudent-work 000000966 980__ $$aTheses and Dissertations
