AB  - Accurate transcripts and captions provided with course video and audio content are essential to accessibility of digital course content (W3C, 2021a & 2021b). Students who are deaf or hard-of-hearing benefit from transcripts and captions. However, transcripts and captions are often only provided as an accommodation after students declare a disability. National studies show that students, including those with disabilities, use transcripts and captions for numerous reasons, including to help focus, as study guides. The first author wanted to know how and why OHSU students use transcripts and captions when they are available with video and audio content in their courses.
