Clinical photography has an important role in the education of clinicians. Because differences in skin pigmentation change the appearance of visible disease, students in the health professions should train using photographs of a variety of skin tones. Unfortunately, different skin tones are not well represented by the photographs used for medical education. This negatively impacts the ability of clinicians to treat certain populations, contributing to health disparities such that it would be beneficial to have more examples of clinical photographs on varying skin colors. When pursuing this justice in health for people of color, the social context, including the history of exploitation, cannot be ignored. Therefore, it is important to understand the complex sociotechnical processes involved in clinical photography and the ethical environment in which it is undertaken. To accomplish this, we conducted semi-structured interviews at a tertiary academic medical center with 10 clinicians, 1 medical photographer, and 1 clinical administrator familiar with the clinical photography processes at this institution. 000009725 540__ $$fCC BY-NC-ND 000009725 542__ $$fIn copyright - joint owners 000009725 650__ $$aDiversity, Equity, Inclusion$$013904 000009725 6531_ $$aclinical photography 000009725 6531_ $$aeducational images 000009725 691__ $$aSchool of Medicine$$041369 000009725 691__ $$aSchool of Nursing$$041370 000009725 692__ $$aDepartment of Medical Informatics and Clinical Epidemiology$$041422 000009725 692__ $$aOHSU Library$$042355 000009725 7001_ $$aCollins, Benjamin$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354$$10000-0002-6884-3819 000009725 7201_ $$aFelver, Linda$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354$$eCollaborator$$7Personal$$10000-0001-5019-8367 000009725 7201_ $$aPierce, Pamela$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354$$eCollaborator$$7Personal$$10000-0002-3000-784X 000009725 8564_ $$99e7a45e2-ea3c-45cb-82d5-b5de592cf1d6$$s315849$$uhttps://digitalcollections.ohsu.edu/record/9725/files/ClinicalPhotographyProcesses_Final_withauthordetails__1_.pdf$$ePublic$$221750a0e764dc9695051a0e06875da89$$31 000009725 905__ $$a/rest/prod/zs/25/x9/21/zs25x921q
