Meta-analysis of the influence of patient characteristics on the effectiveness and harms of recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein-2 in lumbar spinal fusion

Using individual patient data from 10 industry-sponsored randomized, controlled trials of rhBMP-2, including 1,255 patients, linear and generalized linear mixed models were used to assess the effects of patient characteristics on estimates of effectiveness and harms of rhBMP-2. The purpose of this project is to determine how patient characteristics impact estimates of effectiveness and harms of rhBMP-2 versus iliac crest bone graft (ICBG) in lumbar spinal fusion.
