Abstract

At the state level, timely data that accurately describes the CNM workforce is necessary to support the continued expansion of midwifery practice and access. To better characterize workforce capacity challenges and support midwives at work, an estimation of the prevalence of burnout and plans for future employment are key. This project's main aim was to describe the midwifery workforce in Oregon. A secondary aim was to understand the workforce's status in relation to burnout, wellbeing, and employment plans. This study provides a demographic and employment snapshot of midwives in Oregon. Organizational efforts to improve practice climate are necessary alongside broader policy work geared towards preventing/treating burnout and mitigating attrition.
