Abstract

The term “idiotypic specificity” was first proposed to designate a unique individual antigenic determinant of immunoglobulins which was not present on antibodies of the same specificity from other individuals, nor on antibodies with different specificity from the same individual. This original definition, however, provides no explanation for the increasing frequency of detectable cross idiotypic specificity of antibodies and must be altered in consideration of such cross specificity.
