Abstract
Although the blood glucose concentration is the critical parameter in the assessment of diabetic control, the inconvenience and expense involved in obtaining the measurement justifies the use of urine tests for glucose. It is the nurse's responsibility to perform the urine tests and interpret the results for hospitalized patients. In addition to clear documentation of drug effects on urine test accuracy, the literature indicates that over reading (obtaining a higher glucose reading than the actual glucose level in the urine) May occur in highly dilute urine specimens.
