Controlled movement of teeth is a fundamental procedure for the clinical dentist dealing with the correction of malocclusion. Because of the poor understanding of the biological process of tooth movement, no data are available which allows us to pre-select forces for given needed tooth movement changes. The purpose of this study is to devise a model for the evaluation of multiple strand wires in an experiment that closely resembles clinical conditions and attempt to gain an insight into the actual forces produced as well as some idea of their elastic limit in clinical terms
