Modern healthcare systems generate enormous amounts of data describing the patients they serve. During the middle of the last decade, many of these healthcare organizations began to form repositories to aggregate all data collected by individual department information systems. In this paper, I will discuss a project that uses Oregon Health and Science University’s clinical data warehouse known as the Lifetime Clinical Record. This project addresses the information needs of a group of leukemia researchers as they attempt to update an existing desktop database of patient data automatically.
