Abstract

The science of user-centered design (UCD) provides a foundation for developing a process that users can apply not only when designing or discovering a system but also when evaluating existing products to determine if they meet their needs. Since UCD processes focus on users' perspectives, they can be developed in a way that allows users to address problems independently, without relying on engineers. The research question was: Can a user-centered model be used as a tool to create a needs specification document and evaluate systems' capabilities in fulfilling those needs?
