Abstract

The purpose of our research was to evaluate the corrosion behavior and nickel ion release of nickel‑titanium archwires, both with and without nitrogen ion implantation technology, under deflected and non‑deflected conditions. To do this, we tested NeoSentalloy wires with and without IonGuard treatment. Our results showed no significant effect of ion implantation or deflection alone. Overall, the data did not support claims that IonGuard provides protection against corrosion or reduces nickel ion release. In fact, when IonGuard‑treated wires were deflected, corrosion increased, as demonstrated by the significant interaction effect observed in the area integration analysis.
