Abstract

Skillful clinical reasoning, the cognitive processes through which nurses combine patient data, knowledge, experience, professional values, and reflection in action to make nursing judgments, develops over time with multiple experiences. Growing knowledge and experience with multiple representations of illnesses result in a cognitive repertoire of familiar situations from which expert nurses can deductively and inductively draw to solve complex patient problems.
