Abstract

Achieving optimal health for everyone requires valuing equality and addressing inequities. In organ transplantation, all eligible candidates should have equal access to organs, but marginalized groups, such as African Americans, face significant barriers. Socioeconomic and sociocultural challenges, along with systems that perpetuate institutionalized racism, disadvantage these communities compared to others. This clinical research program in End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) aims to identify modifiable barriers to pre-kidney transplant evaluation that contribute to these inequities, focusing on those faced by African Americans, and to propose solutions to reduce or eliminate them.
