Abstract
The hydrogen electrode is probably the most important and most widely used electrode in the field of electrochemistry. The hydrogen electrode has been used for nearly 80 years as the electrochemical standard by which all other electrode potentials are assigned. The simplicity of its constituents makes this electrode ideal for study and analysis, and its reliability makes it useful as a reference electrode when studying other electrochemical phenomenon. The present investigation concerns itself with the study of the pressure dependence of hydrogen adsorption on a platinum electrode in acid media. The specific intent of this work is to find whether additional hydrogen absorbs onto a platinum electrode when the system pressure is increased.
