Abstract
Cell fate specification in the developing spinal cord is vital for forming sensory and motor circuits. LIM-homeodomain transcription factors Isl1 and Lhx3 are essential for motor neuron specification and subtype diversification. These factors form the Isl1-Lhx3 transcription complex, activating genes necessary for motor neuron differentiation. As development proceeds, varying levels of Isl1 and Lhx3 expression influence the differentiation of motor neuron subtypes. While their roles in motor neuron specification are established, the transcriptional pathways regulating their expression remain unclear.
