Abstract

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) due to diabetes is a significant global issue that affects individuals from all racial backgrounds. As of 2014, there were approximately 159 new cases per one million people in the United States, which equates to over 51,000 new cases each year. According to the CDC, 9.3% of the U.S. population has diabetes. Furthermore, the American Kidney Fund reports that diabetes is the leading cause of chronic kidney disease, responsible for 44% of all new cases. The target audience for my presentation is adults over the age of 18 who have either Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes and reside in Coos County, Oregon.
