Abstract

As people age, their functional ability and mobility often decline, leading to reduced endurance, balance, strength, and flexibility. This increase in these declines can heighten the risk of falls, resulting in injuries, hospitalizations, loss of independence, and even premature death. While many believe falls are a normal part of aging, this misconception is being challenged. Older adults are increasingly focusing on fitness to prevent injuries. Healthy People 2020 is a federal health prevention initiative that aims to promote longevity and well-being by creating a framework to reduce injury, disease, disability, and premature death.
