Abstract

Feeding protocols, which are guidelines for the initiation and advancement of nutrition support to be used before a dietitian's initial assessment, have been associated in some studies with earlier achievement of goal feeding rate, increased use of enteral over parenteral nutrition, reduced risk of mortality, and fewer incidences of infection. This retrospective chart review investigated nutrition-related outcomes before and after implementation of a feeding protocol in the Doernbecher Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) in 2013.
