Description
Marie Wagner, Librarian Emeritus of the UOMS Library, shares her memories of her early career in teaching, her military service, and her years at UOMS in this interview. Born in Pennsylvania in 1911, she describes her education at a teachers' college and her years teaching around the state. In 1942 she joined the Women's Army Corps and she speaks to her service as a supply officer at an airfield in Ohio in the interview. Discharged in 1946, she traveled the country before coming to Oregon and taking a job at the UOMS library. She describes her first meeting with original librarian Bertha Hallum and the friendly atmosphere of a small library on a small campus. Over her nearly 30-year career she saw many changes, including Dean Baird's push to add librarians to the faculty. She tells of the support of local medical societies for the library, and of their relations with other libraries.
