In the interview Conrad Carter, M.D., talks about his education during the 1940s at Reed College and the University of Oregon Medical School and his interest in neurology. He goes into great detail about his memories of Drs. Robert S. Dow and John E. Raaf, who he entered into private practice with after he completed his residency. He talks about the development of the neurology and neurosurgery departments at UOMS, his decision to join the faculty, and the development of the Neurological Sciences Institute. He describes the gradual change from volunteer to paid faculty on campus.
