Kathleen Potempa, outgoing Dean of OHSU School of Nursing and Vice President of OHSU, talks about the numerous changes at the School since her arrival in 1996; about trends in nursing; ad her long career in nursing administration. She was educated at Rush University School of Nursing, and she espouses the tenets of the Christman Model for Nurses, including faculty comprised of expert clinical nurses, quality assurance, and research. She discusses the strategic framework created in her early years at OHSU, and the resulting One Faculty initiative. The renewed commitment to the research mission led to recruitment of notable faculty. She tells of her own early research and the grants she brought with her. She also speaks of budget challenges, the Distinguished Professorship program, steps to encourage cultural diversity, and her involvement in national nursing associations.
