Abstract

Though rates of unplanned teen pregnancies have been steadily decreasing since the 1980s, prevalence of these events are much higher in the United States when compared to other developed nations. Public schools across the US do not have universal standards when it comes to the sexual education provided in schools, and there is substantial harm that can come to adolescents and families when adverse outcomes from risky sexual activities occur. This publication discusses ideal concepts to include in curriculum, and how early integration of sexual education materials in public schools provides improved outcomes for young people.
