In this essay, Joseph Consani covers a 14-year period of the School of Dentistry, with particular attention to the positive impact of Dean Henry J. Van Hassel, D.D.S., M.S.D., Ph.D. Van Hassel was credited as a caring individual who created a supportive environment for dental students by coming up with innovative solutions to complicated scheduling issues. Additionally, he was a major asset to the funding of the school by securing significant grant money for post-graduate students, as well as lessening the need for state funding to allow for the School of Dentistry to become more self-reliant and sustainable.
