In 1952, Naomi Shihab Nye was born in St. Louis, Missouri, to an American mother and a Palestinian father. She is the author of multiple books of poetry, short stories, and children's fiction, including Habibi, which won the 1998 Jane Addams Children's Book Award. Nye gives voice to her experiences as an Arab American through her artistic endeavors. (Source: poets.org)
