Abstract

New graduate certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs) leaving academia and entering clinical practice face unique challenges such as increased autonomy, separation from peers, isolation, and feelings of uncertainty in their new role. Lack of practical and emotional support when transitioning to a new role and facility can lead to burnout, job dissatisfaction, and turnover. A formal mentorship program is critical to successfully bridging the gap between the education process and the professional world. This needs assessment project aims to identify the need for a formal mentorship program for Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU) new graduate CRNAs.
