Abstract

The Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) Knight Cancer Institute Mobile Outreach Team is dedicated to addressing cancer disparities by increasing cancer outreach efforts across Oregon’s 96,000 square miles, with a particular focus in the underserved regions. By examining successful strategies implemented by other cancer centers, this report will provide actionable recommendations to enhance the effectiveness and sustainability of the Knight Mobile Outreach Team’s efforts. An environmental scan was completed to analyze funding sources, community engagement, mobile unit operations, program evaluation and metrics, and the internal environment of the associated cancer institutions. Based on the findings, it is recommended to prioritize grant funding, collaborate with other departments at OHSU, integrate workflows into the greater OHSU health system, establish key performance indicators, and specify the focus of the unit.
