Abstract

The Pediatric Gastroenterology department at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) has a need to address the current resource allocations given to patients dealing with pediatric obesity and other comorbidities. Pediatric metabolic syndrome and obesity management is a growing concern for children. The consequences of children not managing this health concern with proper nutrition, physical activity, and support from family can result in chronic conditions. This research serves as an exploration into how the pediatric clinics are currently structured. The recommendations show how improvements can contribute to better health outcomes in pediatric obesity patients. The objective is to align OHSU pediatric obesity serving clinics within to the institutions commitment to provide the highest quality patient and family centered care. By adding or expanding resources offered to children, this research aims to enhance children's health outcomes through improved clinical workflows, referral processes, parent support programs, and addressing the lack of social determinants of health primarily through food insecurity.
